Write about a time when the power went out.

When I was younger I lived in a area where the power went out frequently and sometimes for days at a time. We had a gas stove and a coal heater, so we never worried about heat or warm food. Our light was kerosene lanterns.

This past winter I had my first experience losing power for more than an hour in a big city. It was December and it was my son’s birthday.

We started out the day by using the computer to talk with my sister to see if she had electricity. She lives about an hour away and she did have electricity. There was electricity a couple of blocks away too. Ours was out because of all the ice on our older lines. The kids and I had a fun day playing and enjoying the silence that comes with no electricity.

My husband decided that he would buy a generator so we could have lights, use a little heater and keep the fridge cool. It was nice how my husband was so concerned with us. I told him several times that it was not a problem, because temperature changes usually don’t bother kids and I was used to no electricity. My husband decided to go to the local store and buy the generator anyway. When he got home it took him 45 minutes to get the electrical cord out and get the generator hooked up, but then we had lights and a little heat. I thought it was good to have the fridge going again, so things stayed cold. It didn’t help our supper. We had bowls of cold cereal.

My son opened up his presents, no cake, as I had been unable to bake one. Right after we got doing all of that, the electricity came back on. And our house got warm again and my son had a birthday to remember.

The joy of a cold or is it joy?

I wonder does anybody think that a cold can be joyful? I really do not think so. I know that I have not had any joys out of the colds that I have had in the past three months. This first cold I had in over a year began the first of September. I was coming back from vacation in Wyoming. We were driving and because of the elevation change, my ears got so plugged they hurt for three days. I could never get them to completely pop. The next couple of colds were not so bad for me, but they were really bad for my daughter. She would wake up at 4:00 every single morning. She woke up at the same time for at least a week. It was terrible. I was so tired from being awakened every night. Now, this latest cold I have in not much better than the first. I have had it for about a week and most of the time my nose is so plugged I can’t even breathe. I am just glad that I am old enough that I can take the cold medicine. I just suffer along with the kids when they get sick. I know there is no joy to having a cold.

Where does a hermit live?

Hermit

Surrounded by pines
High in Horse Canyon
Is a hermit’s log cabin.
The chinking is falling
From cracks between the logs.
There are holes in the roof.
It has one room
With a stove, bed, sink,
Couch, table, and chairs.
It may seem like nothing,
To him it means his life.
He doesn’t mind
The poorness of it,
Wind through the pine tops
And howl of the wolf.
The creek and mountains
Give him what he needs.
Sitting on the bank of smooth Sno-Shoe Creek
He catches trout and suckers.
He hunts in the mountains
For bear, elk, and deer.
It’s the solitary life he leads
And beauty of the wilderness that he loves.

Write about Love, Life, and Wealth

Love is a knife that cuts a heart into many pieces.
Love is a rose that slowly opens to its full beauty.
Life is a road that curves and twists, with both wrecks and repairs.
Life is the inside of a tunnel, protected from the world.
Wealth is the devil in disguise trying to hurt somebody.
Wealth is a sunny day that makes love and life wonderful.

Write about a tense time at camp.

The Ride

When I was at a camp and riding in a suburban with some of my friends, I realized there was a great deal of tension in the air. It was probably because of the rainy weather we were having. The tension was bothering me. I decided to write about it.

There’s tension in the air,
It grows stronger every minute.
It’s starting to strangle me.
People have been together
For too long.
I wish it would stop,
It is going to
Make me go insane.

I am almost there!!!
I will leave the vehicle
Before I go insane.

What is my message in a Bottle?

I am so excited to have you read this message. Have you ever heard of the kindest and gentlest person in ever, Jesus? He is a person that lived around 2000 years ago and died for all of our sins. His Father influenced people to write a book called the Bible, which still influences people today. It tells of us about when God formed the earth, animals and people. It also tells us how we should behave and it tells us of Jesus, who died for our sins so we can go to heaven one day. I have been studying the Bible for some years, but I still don’t understand it all. I wish I knew more so I could tell write more to you. If you would like some more information about God and Jesus, please send me a letter. So you can change your life as I did mine.

More on Byron Stripling

More on Byron Stripling

He had gentle controlled power
When he came on stage.
When I heard him
I was overcome with awe.
The trumpet was ordinary silver.
It produced notes
I’d never heard before. They put the best to shame.

Freestyle day!!

Byron Stripling

He is the only one
who I immediately fell in love with.

I wish I could see him again,
the powerful man who said,
“Play like a stakin piece of pizza.”

When we got our first computer

It was in December of 1986 when we got our new computer. It was an Apple IIe and it was from a store in the largest town we live near. We got it shortly before we were going to New Orleans for the New Year, so we had to wait until we got back to use it. It was a really fun computer to use. My favorite game was Lemonade Stand. I really enjoyed making the lemonade and then seeing how much I could sell. If I remember right I was successful seller. It was just too bad we didn’t live in an area where we could sell lemonade on a daily basis. The other game I really liked was for the Civil War. I enjoyed planning my battles and then winning more battles then the Civil War generals did. That computer was fun and I still enjoy the computer even though it has changed greatly. It has become even more fun. I wish I could still play those other games though and show them to my children.

What is this in the mail?

It wasn’t until a recent summer that I received something in the mail that was totally unexpected, but I knew exactly what it was. I was on vacation in the West and when we pulled into the drive I saw the box sitting by the mailbox. I was really glad that it had not been raining. The package could have been wrecked and I would have lost a valuable family resource. When I saw the address was from Denver I knew immediately that the package contained the volumes of our family history. I was so excited that I would finally have my own copy. I enjoyed reading my parents copy. I was hoping that sometime I could have my own copy, but I was not sure how I could afford it. God was blessing me by giving me a treasure that I will always keep safe.

If I could change the alphabet

If I could change the English alphabet I think I would combine some of the letters together. I think AAAAAA should be a letter. There are some days when I feel like screaming and that should be a letter. I think we could get rid of the letters Q and Z. We don’t use those letters very often and if we don’t use the letters, we probably don’t need the letters. I think we could use the rest of the letters though, let us shake it up a bit though and say it backwards. I would like AAAAAA will be the first letter of my alphabet. Enjoy it everyone.

Should I use bleach or not.

Should I use bleach. Write about something that does not want to stay white or clean, but you keep trying.

There are many things in this world that never want to stay white or clean, like the stove or white pants. We have problems staying white and clean, because of our sins. We are very fortunate that Jesus died for our sins. We now have a chance of being white and clean. I am glad that Jesus is there so he can help stay white and clean.

Write about a dream you can remember.

Trophy Room

A dream of falling from a balcony
Toward an unknown brown leather couch
In an unknown room filled with trophies,
Animals from Africa; lions, gazelles, hyenas, water buffalo
North America; wolves, bears, elk and moose.
I never reached the couch. I woke up.

Years later, my boss’s house, the trophy room
I found my nightmare,
The room, balcony and couch.
Hard to go to the balcony,
The fear of falling forever.

Tell the story of a mistake made in the kitchen

When I was younger, one of my friends would spend the night a couple of times a month and we would have a lot of fun. Lots of our fun would be in the kitchen. We would fix all different meals. My brother would also help us. Some of our meals were great, the ones were we used a cookbook and those we did not use. There was one meal that did not work. We shall just call it Tuna Surprise. I had to double check with my mom to see what exactly we put in it. We decided to put in; tuna, cream of mushroom soup, pork and beans, corn and blue food coloring. Separately all of these ingredients look and taste great, but together they are gray and yucky. The casserole was thick and my mom was the only one who ate it and she said it tasted good. I am not sure what the rest of us ate that night, but I am sure we fixed enough food to fill up. I know since then my experiments have gotten much better. The only time my meals don’t work out is when I try too hard to make it good. And you know, a person can’t always judge something by its looks.

Three things to say in my obituary.

When someone writes my obituary there are at least three things they should mention. I hope they remember to mention my years in 4-H, how much my family means to me and most importantly, how I tried to live for God.

What do you take when you have to evacuate?

Oh, no I have ten minutes to evacuate my house forever. What am I going to take with my. I am so glad that my family and pets are safe. I know I am going to grab the two laptops and the hard drives. I am not going to lose the pictures I have taken of my children. I am also going to make sure that I get my camera. The last things I would grab are several books that are not replaceable and the small safe, which holds our important documents. I do not want to have to replace social security cards and other things like that. I would ask the children to quickly think of something that was of importance of them that they would like to continue to have. I would not try to grab anything else, because other things are materialistic. As long as I have my family and pets, everything else can be replaced.

I think that everybody needs to think of the things they would take with them, because with all the floods and fires that are taking place in the United States they need to be prepared.

Write about a member of your family

Johnna

Uno, dos, tres
The first beginning numbers.
Cuatro, cinco, seis,
The age my sister was.
Ella juegaba el tennis dos veces.
Both times she loved it.
Siete, ocho, nueve, diez
Let’s go to another place.

City or country life?

Trapped

The elk’s bugle
The coyote’s howl,
Wind blowing aspens,
Seas of green grass,
The great Rockies,
That is what I miss.
The city- too crowded,
Rush of people,
Buildings too tall,
No clear air.
My soul is trapped.
I need silence.
I need mountains.
I have to leave,
To be free.

Remember

Feel free to leave your comments. I welcome them.

Write about your favorite place

Write about your favorite place

Boxelder Canyon

Bugle of bull elk
Howl of coyote and wolf
Wind through firs and pine
Large drifts on edge of trees
Cozy fires on stormy nights

Next day glorious
Sun glistening off snow
Cold winter wind
Miles without a soul
There are signs
Elk, bear, and lion
Looking for food
Cold air bites cheeks
Smell of wood smoke
Cures cabin fever
Happiness

Compare your day to a game played during recess

There is only one game that I can think of that would be able to compare my daily life and that is freeze-tag. To me, each of my days starts and I want to go and tag all of the things that need to get done during the day, but something always tags me first and it is so fast that nobody is able to un-freeze me. I wish one of these days; I will be the fastest runner, so that I am the last one standing on the playground who never gets tagged. I am tired of being frozen before the day starts.

Daily Activities I do not like

The daily activity that is not one of my favorites is getting out of bed in the morning.
There are five daily activities that are worse than getting out of bed in the morning.
-make my son’s bed
-clean the house
-fold the laundry
-cleaning the kitchen floor
-looking at the backyard

What can you say to your husband to show him respect?

Today’s blog is going to be a little bit different. I need the help of the reader. I would like to know your opinions about respect and how you can verbally show a husband respect. I would also enjoy reading you opinions on what to say to others as well.

I have been married for a long time and I am just realizing what it really means to biblically show your husband respect. A woman is to show respect like the man is to show love. It is difficult to remember that a husband needs the respect more than he needs to be told, “I love you.” I know a wife can say I respect the job you do or I respect the way you listen to what I have to say. I am looking for something more extraordinary. Thank you for your time and effort.

People's opinions

If anybody ever wants to comment or say something about what I have been writing I welcome it. If you like it tell me and if you don't, you can certainly say it too. I am always interested in new writing prompts too.

Thank you.

What do I tell my family on my deathbed?

As I lay here on my bed dying of a rare form of cancer, I have some words of advice to give all of you, no matter the age. Although the younger generations would have a better chance of a lifetime benefit.

First, always make sure you eat a well balanced diet. It is so important to continue to eat all the fruits and vegetable, I would not follow any food pyramid, but I would say it is not all wrong. I would like you to still eat meat, but make sure you do not eat very much and do make sure it is the leanest meat, like elk. Do not eat the unclean meats. Sweets and alcohol are fine in moderation, but make sure you only take what is the healthiest. I know that most of you will not heed me, but it is best for you if you do.

And MAKE SURE YOU EXERCISE!!! There are so many different ways of exercising today. I have never tried the Wii, but I hear it is lots of fun. I am not to particular on how you do it, but please do.

The final thing that I am going to say is that follow the guidelines in the Bible. Jesus is our savior and we need to strive to be like him. I know that none of you can perfectly be as Jesus is, but you can work hard to try. And you can be so thankful that Jesus died so that if we mess up once in a while we are still saved. Just read and study the Bible, during the week when you are not in the fellowship of other Christians and you will have a life that others can only believe in. REMEMBER MONETARY WEALTH IS NOT IMPORTANT.

Thank you for listening to my words. I know you will have a wonderful life. May God bless you.

For those of you who read this, if you would say something different I would be interested in knowing.

Write a 26-word story where every word begins with a different letter of the alphabet

Dad has a pink bat with orange jelly. Cat goes limp. Frank kicks Mouse’s nest. “Run, stay, yellow zebra.” Elk has x-ray van. Umbrella is quick.

One of my favorite things

I would have to say that one of my favorite things would have to be a bright sunny day. It always makes me happy when I wake up to the sun shining and the birds singing. I am very lucky to be able to live in a place in the world where the sun shines most of the time. The only time that it does not shine much is in the winter. I get tired of the gray days. I would much rather have the sun warming my face, but I put on a smile and I know the day will come. One of the benefits of the sun is also the vitamin D. I think there are many psychological benefits as well. I have noticed that people are much happier when the sun is shining. Perhaps most teenagers should live in sunny climates, so they are not so gloomy. I just know I will always live where most of the year the sun shines. Wish I were in a sunny spot right now.

Voting

Today is the day to vote. I hope that everybody that can does or has. This is a right that many of us have not had for very long in the United States. Younger people today may forget that it was just in the last century that women did not have the same rights they do now. I have been voting for many years. I can still remember my first time. It was out in the country and I went with my parents. It was a warm summer afternoon as we walked into the building. Those I saw I had known all my life and they greeted me with a warm smile, as they knew it was going to be my first time voting. I remember filling out the card saying who I was and what my party affiliation was going to be. I then took my card into the booth and punched holes in the card. When I had finished voting I took my ballot and stuck it in the box. I was very proud that I had exercised my right to vote. I look back on that time with fond memories, because people no longer vote there.

Write a poem about my hero

Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

Brown is the color of his chaps,
Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

Blue is the color of his shirt,
Brown is the color of his chaps,
Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

Dark brown is the color of his skin,
Blue is the color of his shirt,
Brown is the color of his chaps,
Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

White is the color of his smile,
Dark brown is the color of his skin,
Blue is the color of his shirt,
Brown is the color of his chaps,
Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

Black is the color of his hat,
White is the color of his smile,
Dark brown is the color of his skin,
Blue is the color of his shirt,
Brown is the color of his chaps,
Black is the color of his boots,
Silver is the color of a cowboy’s spurs.

My most embarrassing moment and my thoughts on it

I would have to say that my most embarrassing moment happened in Montana.

I was there with my 4-H range team for Montana Range Days. We had left from Douglas earlier that day and I had not had anything to eat since the day before. It was after I had some lunch that I was not feeling very well. When we went to the field to look at plants I got sick while we were still driving in the car. I was in the back seat in the middle, not a very good place to get out. Fortunately for me, it just went all over me. I was so lucky that it did not go over anybody else. At that point in time I don’t think that part was very embarrassing it was later when Brady mentioned it at the Pizza Hut when we were eating supper. I know that my face got as red as the table clothes on the tables. It was fine though I was pretty experienced with getting sick. I had just gone way too long with out eating. It was a good learning experience. I took care to not do that again. I am much better about things like that now. Looking back on the experience I was so dumb for not having a little bit of something to eat, especially when I knew that I could sometimes get sick from riding in the back seat of the car. When you are a child you just never know what kind of things you should do or not do. I guess I just learned different lessons when I was younger.

I am pretty sure that was my most embarrassing moment. I cannot really think of any other thing that could be my most embarrassing moment. I am sure that there could be different moments, but my memory has decided to erase them. I could ask different people if there are some embarrassing moments, but I don’t think that I will. I prefer to have some dignity and just have the memory of one thing that did not go right for me that day in Montana.

I know that there will be more embarrassing moments in my life, but I truly believe that they only are what you make them to be. It does not matter what other people think of your actions. It is only how you see yourself. If you happen to be a self- conscious person everything can be embarrassing to you. Even what you find embarrassing others may not. Embarrassing moments are just your perceptions of your life and the lives of others.
