a poem, "The Course of Telling"
Wonder how much he actually knew;
Gettysburg, 54th Massachusetts,
Generals, Grant and Lee, slavery?
The importance of the players in the deadly game.
How victory could change sides from time to time,
sometimes the North winning, sometimes the South.
The slaves knew it would be the North
who would capture the flag forever.
